How do you get there and park?
Start at the front door on Chelsea Avenue. The Star Gold Coast is about a 20-minute walk or a 4-minute drive south-west, across the Gold Coast Highway onto Broadbeach Island. The easy call on a warm evening is to walk over and rideshare home, which keeps the wine list open. If you drive, the resort has on-site self-parking and a valet at the main entrance, so you are not circling for a space. The Broadbeach South G:link tram stop is also a short walk from the resort, which makes the trip home simple if you have wandered further into Surfers earlier in the day. On foot, the route takes you past the Broadbeach dining strip, so it is easy to fold a pre-dinner drink into the walk over if you leave a little early.
Where should dinner be?
Book the lift to level 19 and dinner at Nineteen at The Star, the fine-dining room at the top of The Darling. The one thing not to miss is the view: the entire coastline lays out below the windows as the light drops, and it is worth timing your booking for sunset. On the plate, the dish reviewers return to is the rich Patagonian toothfish, and the Chef’s Showcase set menu is the smart order if you want the kitchen to lead. Start with fresh or baked oysters and the beef tartare, both regulars on the menu, then let the mains and the coastline do the rest. Dinner runs Tuesday to Saturday from 5:30pm, so a weekend table is easy to land, and a Friday lunch sitting is on offer too if a long midday meal suits your day better. If you are short on time, skip the full degustation and go straight for a main and a glass with the view. Either way, book ahead: a window table on level 19 is the one that goes first, and December and school holidays fill fast, so a few days’ notice saves you the walk-up wait at the pass.
What is the move after dinner?
Downstairs, the night opens up. Settle into Cherry, the lavish 22-metre bar at the centre of the action, or find a stool at the Kiyomi bar for something more theatrical before or after a meal. Between them sit the Sports Bar, with a wall of screens for anyone chasing the footy, and a scatter of casual eateries in the Food Quarter if dinner ran late and dessert calls. The Star runs regular live entertainment and shows, so it is worth checking what is on before you head over, especially on a weekend. Touring comedy, live music and cabaret cycle through across the year, so a dinner-and-show evening is easy to line up if something is on while you are staying with us. If cards or the pokies are your thing, the gaming floor is open around the clock and strictly 18-plus. Short on energy? What about the new Andaz tower?
Look up from the forecourt and you can’t miss the new tower going up. That is Andaz Gold Coast, Hyatt’s first Andaz hotel in Australia, taking shape across the upper floors of The Star’s second tower on Broadbeach Island. It is a 202-room hotel set over levels 6 to 21 of a 65-storey tower, part of a roughly 400-million-dollar resort expansion, and it is due to open in late 2026 as the fourth hotel at the resort. Plans include its own dining outlets, a fitness centre and a pool deck with cabanas. For now it is one to watch, and a good reason to come back to Broadbeach next year.
